Shane's Night Elf Song

So, the story is like this. Gabe and Tycho, being famous, uh, "video games webcomic guys" (a real job you can be in this era), had a bunch of World of Warcraft beta keys. Because Night Elves had just gone into the beta, they had a contest- "Prove you are a night elf, and you get a beta key! We don't care how. Maybe you could dress up as one or sing a song as one or something."

Sing a song as one, you say. Welll... I had woken up at 3PM, and I didn't have to work at Domino's Pizza until 5PM. Xeojax Production Studios was close to Domino's and Jon was over there. I had 2 hours for GLORY!

The song was already whipped up, it's Medieval Peaceful. I quickly whipped up a few rhymes and I went into the recording booth to sing them. Jon started the track and I sang my little heart out.

Then, when it was done, I felt happy and posted it to the forums. SOMEONE won for "bursting into song", but it wasn't me. But how many people were likely to submit a song? Did someone steal the track and take credit for my work? The world may never know- they didn't post the winning results.

WoW eventually came out and I got to play it anyway.

The picture for this is me at BlizzCon. I know it's not a night elf. It's me as the Lich King, who wants to destroy all life on Azeroth. Not that I'm bitter about not winning or anything.

about

It's hastily written, I know. For example, the opening line should say "I will sing you a song as old as NORDdrassil itself", not TELdrassil. GLIEVEN! Unforgivable. See, this is what happens when you rush greatness.

lyrics

"Ah, greetings my friend! What's that? You wish to hear a song? I will sing you a song that is as old as Teldrassil itself. This song harkens back to the days when Ysera first called all the night elf men into her Emerald Dream after the first coming of the Burning Legion to our world"

Harken there, ye child of Elune
Her children all are we
Her daughters guarding the forests on high
Her sons in their barrows they dream

Ten thousand years Mt. Hyjal has stood
Its crown the World Tree
Yet deep beneath each barrow and wood
We slept in the Emerald Dream

The Druids of the Bear were also there
So too were the Druids of the Crow
Though where the Storm Winds will carry them
Is not for us to know

We wake once more, our task as before
To guard the sacred tree
And settle scores, though the World be at War,
My Owl, my Panther, and Me.
